Paper Format Requirements for ICDIC(2016)

Paper Format Requirements 
 
The  paper  should   be  composed  of  9  parts,   which  are  arranged  as follows:
 
a)   Cover
b)   Title page
c)   Abstract
d)  Contents
e)   Icon list and main symbol table (omitted if necessary)
f)    Main body
g)   Works cited
h)  Notes
 
Writing norms
 
Paper should be written and edited on the computer, transferred to the PDF,
and submitted to the network on time.
 
1.1 Font type and size
 
Title: Size 2(二号字), centered
Subtitle: Size 3, right (omitted if necessary)
Chapter title: Size 3, centered
Section title: Size 4, left
Item title: Small 4(小四号字), size left
Content: Small 4, Times New Roman
Page number: size 5, Times New Roman
 
1.2 Margins and spacing
 
Top  margin:  25mm; bottom  margin:  25mm;  left  margin:  30mm; right  margin:
20mm;  Chapter title,  section  title and  item  title: single-spaced,  and  0.5  spaced
before and after.
 
Content: 1.5 spaced, with no space before and after.
 
1.3 Page header
 
Header   is    “Entry   of    the   International    Collegiate   Design    and   Innovation
Competition  (Beijing 2016)”,  centered,  small  5 size,  Times  New  Roman, which
should be marked from the main body (Introduction or Chapter 1)
 
1.4 Page number and word number
 
Page numbers  should  be marked  from the  main body  (introduction, content,
and conclusion) to “works cited and notes”.
 
Page numbers should be edited in sequence in size 5 Arabic numerals, and placed
in footer, centered. Don’t edit page numbers on cover and title page.
 
Abstract,   contents  icon   list   and  main   symbol   table   should  be   edited   in
sequence in size 5 in Roman numerals, and placed in footer, centered.
 
The total word number of English paper is at least 5000.
 
1.5 Pictures, charts and notes
 
Pictures and  charts should  be placed below  the words that  mention them  for
the first  time. Place  them in  the next  page if they  cannot be  placed in  the same
one.
 
1.5.1 Pictures
 
The  pictures  should  be edited  in  Arabic  numerals  from  1,  eg.  “Picture  1”,
“Picture 2”…. The  numbers should be sequenced  before notes, and  are irrelevant
with  the  numbers   of  chapters,  sections  and   charts.  It  should   be  marked  as
“Picture 1” if there is only one  picture. Title of the pictures should be precise  and
short, in  bold size 5 Times  New Roman, picture  number and picture title  should
be spaced  2 half-width.  Picture number  and title  should  be centered  below the
picture.  Words  in  the  picture  should  be  size  5  Times  New  Roman.  “Quantity,
standard symbols and units” should be marked in X  and Y coordinates, which can
be  omitted if  necessary.  Quantity  marks and  abbreviations  marked  in X  and  Y
coordinates should be in accordance with the content.
 
1.5.2 Charts
 
The charts  should  be edited  in Arabic  numerals from  1,  eg. “Chart  1”, “Chart
2”…. The numbers should  be sequenced before notes, and  are irrelevant with the
numbers of  chapters, sections  and pictures.  It should  be marked  as “Chart  1” if
there is  only one  chart.  Title of  the charts  should be  precise and  short,  in bold
size 5  Times New  Roman,  picture number  and picture  title should  be spaced  2
half-width. Chart number  and title should be centered above  the charts.Words in
the picture should be size 5 Times New Roman.
 
1.5.3 Notes
 
When there are  appendix in pictures and  charts, the sequence  numbers without
exception are “Note + Arabic numeral + colon”, eg. “Note 1:”
 
Notes  should  be   placed  below  pictures  and   charts  in  size  5   Times  New
Roman.
 
Specific requirements of every part of a thesis
 
1.6 Cover of the thesis
 
The  title   of  a   thesis  should   be  accurate,   clear  and   concise,  which   can
summarize the main and most important contents of the whole thesis. In general,
the  length is  within 30  words.  For the  unfinished  meaning, a  subtitle could  be
available. Due to its subordinate position, a subtitle should start a new line with a
dash below  the title.  The title  should avoid  using rare  abbreviations, acronyms,
characters, symbols and formulas and so on.
 
1.7 Abstract
 
Chinese abstract  should  include  “摘要”, text  of abstract  and  keywords. For
Chinese and English abstracts, the keywords must be put on a separate line at the
bottom of the abstract and indicated with the notable characters.
 
The abstract  is a brief  statement of  the thesis, which  should reflect  its core
ideas.  In  general,  the   length  of  a  Chinese   abstract  is  about  500   words.  The
abstract  should   involve  the   purpose  and   significance  of  the   research  work,
research ideas and methods, results and conclusions.
 
1.8 Keywords
 
For the users to  search documents, a group of words or  terms selected from
the thesis to  reveal the main  contents should try to  adopt standard words in  the
glossary (refer to the corresponding technical terminology  standards). In general,
the length  of keywords ranges  from 3 to  8, which are  arranged according to  the
epitaxial layers  of the  terms. Keywords  are separated by  comas and  there is  no
punctuation at the end of the last keyword.
 
1.9 Contents
 
Contents  should  be  written  according  to  the  order  of  chapters,  sections,
articles  and  headlines,  which   are  usually  divided  into  second   or  third  level.
Contents should  include  introduction, the  body  part, conclusion,  appendix  and
reference.
 
1.10 The body part
 
Generally  speaking, the  body  part of  a  thesis  should include  introduction,
text, and conclusion and so on. It should be written according to the chapters and
sections and each chapter should start on a new line.
 
The headlines of a chapter should highlight the important points in a concise
and logical  manner. In  general, the  length is within  15 words  without using  the
punctuations. English  acronyms should try  to be avoided.  For those which  must
be used, the common abbreviations should be adopted.
 
It would be  appropriate to use less  hierarchy, which can be chose  according
to the  actual  requirement. The  level of  the tertiary  headings should  be  written
according  to such  format  as the  chapter  (for  example“一、”), the  section(e.g.
“(一)”), the  article  (e.g.“1、”). In  addition,  the Arabic  numerals  of the  title
sequence f each chapter should use the Times New Roman.
 
1.11 Conclusion
 
The  conclusion of  the  thesis should  be a  separate  chapter, but  no  chapter
number should be added.
 
1.12 Reference
 
An  annotation  should be  added  where  there  is a  direct  reference  to  the
results of  others (texts, numbers,  facts, and paraphrases  of the views  of others),
and it should also be listed in the references to avoid plagiarism phenomenon.
 
1.13 In-text citation
 
The format of citation: The annotation ways of citing the reference should be
uniform in the whole thesis. That is, the  “sequence number” should be put before
the last period  of the citation  or the relayed  views. The sequence number  of the
documents  should   use  small  4  Times   New  Roman  and  put   into  the  square
brackets in the form of superscript, for instance “......the result1  ”.
